I thought I’d share a wee story with you to start your week off on a positive note.
Some of you may know that I have a brother with multiple disabilities.
His favorite thing in the world is Sharon, Lois & Bram’s Elephant Show (Think Skinnamarink)
Since the early 2000s, I’d been scouring second hand stores and the internet for VHS tapes of the show for my brother (even though he’s blind, he still likes to “watch”). I had a fair collection, but a few years ago, through some very generous connections from friends & strangers, I got connected to Sharon herself. I told her how Trent uses their songs to communicate (if we can’t understand what he’s saying, he’ll sing one of their songs with the word in it to get his point across) and how much their music has meant in our family. She was just the loveliest, and got me copies of all 60 episodes of the show for my brother. (I cried. A lot)
Since then, he gets 5 new episodes every birthday and Christmas, and he never stops being absolutely delighted.
This weekend, again through the kindness of many helpers, we managed to get him to Toronto for a concert, and he got to meet his heroes. I wasn’t sure if he’d “get” that he was meeting them, but BOY DID HE. They couldn’t have been lovelier, and I don’t know that he’s ever been happier. He spent the rest of the day singing their songs and asking for “Sharon and Bam”
Thank you, @sharonandbram, for absolutely making my brother’s (and our entire family’s) day. We love The Colour Song, and can’t wait to add it to our family’s repertoire! •
